FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's soccer team battled undefeated No. 8/10 Central Florida to a 1-1 draw Friday night at George Mason Stadium. With his fifth goal of the season, Taylor Morgan gave the Patriots the early lead, but the Knights evened the scored late in the first half as the teams played over 65 minutes of scoreless action.

The Patriots (2-2-2) outshot the Knights 13-6, including a 6-1 second half advantage. Morgan, Leo Stolz, Ryan Gracia and Timmy Mulgrew each took three shots to lead the Patriots; Mulgrew put two on frame. Warren Creavalle attempted two shots to pace the Knights. Central Florida (5-0-1) goalkeeper Shawn Doyle recorded three saves in the contest, while Mason goalkeeper Sean Cote picked up one.

Mason scored first using a Morgan goal in the 21st minute. On a free kick, Stolz played the ball in from the far side to Morgan on the left corner of the net. The junior put it away from three-yards out for the early 1-0 lead.

Central Florida leveled the match just over eight minutes later, also coming off a free kick. From the near side, Nik Robson sailed the kick to McKauly Tulloch in the center of the box as the Knight finished the play from five-yards out in the 29th minute to complete the scoring for the contest.

The Knights had a solid scoring opportunity late in the first half to take the lead as Cote came out to challenge an approaching play. Creavalle passed Cote on the right, took a shot from the far side, but Eric Zuehsow blocked out the attempt as the teams entered intermission tied at 1-all.

Mason took six shots in the second half, putting two on frame, to UCF's one shot. The Patriots first threatened to take the lead in the 75th minute when Mulgrew blasted a shot from the far side to the right corner, but Doyle came up with the save. Stolz received the rebound and sent a shot just high.

In the 80th minute, Stolz curled around a Knight defender and put a shot on goal, but Doyle punched it out for his second save of the half, as Mason saw its second scoring chance in the half. On the rebound, Mason attempted another shot in the corner, but was called for an offside to end regulation.

Mulgrew put a shot on goal in the second overtime period, but was unable to convert as Doyle recorded his third and final save of the game. Mason limited Central Florida to one shot in both overtimes periods as the teams ended the contest in a 1-1 draw.

Mason returns to the field and plays host to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, September 18. Match time is slated for a 4 p.m. start following the conclusion of the women's contest against Penn beginning at 2 p.m.
