George Mason Athletics Men's Basketball 9/1/2011 7:16:00 PM

The George Mason men's basketball team will open conference play at Towson on Saturday, December 3 as the Colonial Athletic Association released its 2011-12 schedule on Wednesday. Although the schedule was released by the conference, game times and dates are subject to change as a result of television broadcast scheduling.

Mason's full schedule, including finalized dates and times along with television broadcast information, will be released in October. Season ticket holders should receive their renewals for the 2011-12 season in the next two weeks.

In non-conference action, the Patriots will host at least four opponents including Bucknell (Nov. 30), Duquesne (Dec. 21), Manhattan (Dec. 23) and another team as part of ESPN BracketBuster weekend (Feb. 17-19). Mason may also add another home non-conference game, either in mid-November or December. The Patriots are part of the field in the 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, and will face Florida International (Nov. 14) in Blacksburg before a matchup against Virginia Tech or Monmouth the following night.

Two wins in Blacksburg guarantees the Patriots a trip to Madison Square Garden for semifinal/final round games on November 23 and November 25. Otherwise, Mason will have home games on November 21 and 22 to conclude play in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Mason will begin CAA play on the road on Dec. 3 at Towson, and will also travel to face Old Dominion (Jan. 4), Drexel (Jan. 12), James Madison (Jan. 14), Hofstra (Jan. 25), Delaware (Feb. 1), UNC Wilmington (Feb. 11), Northeastern (Feb. 22) and VCU (Feb. 25).

In their home conference slate, the Patriots welcome William & Mary (Jan. 2) , Georgia State (Jan. 7), Delaware (Jan. 18), Towson (Jan. 21), UNCW (Jan. 23), JMU (Jan. 28), ODU (Feb. 4), Hofstra (Feb. 8) and VCU (Feb. 14).

The Patriots will go for their fifth CAA title as the 2012 CAA Championship will be held March 2-5 at the Richmond Coliseum.
