ESPN RISE named its boys soccer First-Team All-Americans
over the weekend and there was one name on the list that Mason men's soccer
fans are likely to become familiar with in the coming years. Verneri Valimaa, a
Mason signee and the Gatorade Florida State Player of the Year was named to the
12-player team.
Valimaa has been piling up accolades the past few months and
the graduate of American Heritage School in Delray Beach, Fla. Added one more
after a senior season in which he scored 32 goals and handed out 19 assists. He
led American Heritage to a state title and was selected as the Fort Lauderdale
Sun-Sentinel Class 4A-3A-2A Player of the Year.
Valimaa trains with the U.S. Under-18 national team and he
used his dual citizenship to play for the Finland U-18 national team last
month.
