The George Mason baseball team scored three runs in the seventh to tie the game and added four in the 12th as the Patriots completed a season sweep of George Washington on Wednesday, beating the Colonials 8-5 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va. For Mason (13-17-1) it was the ninth-straight win over George Washington (9-21). The Patriots had beaten the Colonials 15-8 on Tuesday.

The Patriots fell behind in the first when Brendon Kelliher led off with a home run. It was his third homer in two games this year against the Patriots and his sixth straight hit against Mason pitching. The score stay 1-0 until the top of the third when Jordan Hill walked, Chris Cook was hit by a pitch, Dan Schafferman singled to load the bases and Shane Davis was hit by a pitch to make it 1-1.

George Washington took the lead back in the fifth when Ryan Thomas walked, went to second on a Kelliher single and scored on a Justin Albright base hit. The Colonials added two more in the sixth as Owen Beightol singled with one out, went to second on a Jim Best hit and scored on a Joe Townsend sacrifice fly. Best scored to make it 4-1 when Joe Motto's ground ball to third was misplayed by Brig Tison .

Mason's big seventh inning came as the Patriots had four straight hits to lead off the inning. Hill, Cook, Tison and Schafferman all had hits to make it 4-2 and with the bases loaded, Davis grounded out to second to make it 4-3. The tying run came home on Jake Kalish 's grounder to second. From that point on, the bullpens were spectacular for both teams. Brandon Kuter and Branden Bartlett combined for Mason to go five innings allowing just three hits while striking out six. Tyler McCarthy, meanwhile, was excellent for the Colonials after coming on in relief in the seventh until the 12th .

Davis led off the 12th with a hit and Jeremy Haas came on to pinch run. Kalish bunted Haas to second prompting the Colonials to intentionally walk Zack Helgeson . After Nick Allen grounded out, Danny Lyons drew a walk to laod the bases. Blaise Fernandez came on to pinch hit and he laced a double to rightfield to clear the bases and make it 7-4. Fernandez scored on Cook's single to make it a four-run lead.

In the bottom of the 12th , the Colonials got a lead-off hit from Owen Mittage but Motto grounded into a double play. Still, GW mounted a rally with a walk, a single and two more walks to drive in a run. But Kalish, pitching in relief, got a fly ball to right to end the game.

Schafferman, Cook, Tison and Davis all had multiple hits while Cook was hit twice, bringing his season total to 20, two shy of tying the school record set by Evan Howard in 2002.

The Patriots will have Thursday off before returning to action on Friday when they open a three-game home series with VCU. First pitch on Friday at Spuhler Field is slated for 3 p.m.
