Mandissa Marshall won the pole vault and Lavell Handy won
the long jump as members of the George Mason track and field teams competed at
the Penn Relays this week.
Marshall set a new school record when she cleared 4.00
meters in the Women's Pole Vault College. She came within one-tenth of a meter
of setting a new Penn Relays record.
Handy leapt 7.57 meters in the Men's Long Jump College, one
of the top 10 jumps in school history. His mark, the equivalent of 24-feet,
10-inches, is the ninth-longest in school history, just ahead of teammate
Dwight Webley, who also competed in the event on Friday. Webley finished
seventh with a jump of 7.34 meters.
Also competing was Wes Sun, who cleared 4.65 meters in the
Men's Pole Vault Eastern. Sun was ninth in the event. Daniel Callan ran the Men's
3000m Steeplechase Championship and finished 14th
with a time of
9:17.85 while Robert Reynolds ran the Men's 3000m Steeplechase College,
finishing 12th
in 9:22.34.
The men's 4X400-meter relay team cpmpeted in Saturday's Championship of America final and the team finished seventh with a time of 3:06.45. The team qualified for the final by finishing seventh in the heats out of 82 teams.
