The
Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association named its All-Conference
performers this week and Mark Jones
and Brandon Joyner
were named first-team
All-EIVA while Shaun Sibley
was chosen second-team All-EIVA. Joyner was also
named to the EIVA All-Academic Team.
Jones
is second in the EIVA in kills per game and fifth in the nation in that
category. He is also 10th
in the EIVA in service aces per game and
26th
in the nation. He has recorded 405 kills, an average of 4.45
per set, while compiling 29 aces, 137 digs and 63 blocks.
Joyner
is second in the EIVA in blocks per game and seventh in assists per game.
Nationally, he is eighth in blocks per set and 27th
in assists per
set. Fourth all-time in school history in assists in the rally-scoring era, he
has 862 assists, 76 kills, 137 digs and 111 blocks. A graduate student pursuing
a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in
Secondary Education, he has a 3.89 GPA., the highest of any member of the All-Academic
Team.
Sibley
leads the nation and the EIVA in blocks per game. Having played in 71 of the
team's 99 sets due to injury, he is averaging 1.55 blocks per set and has hit
.404 on the season with 107 kills in 203 attacks.
Joe
Sunder of Penn State was named the Uvaldo Acosta Player of the Year while
Connor Mortland of NYU was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. Kevin Moore of
Juniata was chosen as the Bob Sweeney Coach of the Year.
On
Thursday, the Patriots will play in the EIVA Semifinals for the 11th
straight season. Mason will take on Springfield at 5:30 p.m. at Rec Hall on the
campus of Penn State University. Springfield was tied with Penn State for the
most first-team All-EIVA members with three. If the Patriots beat Springfield,
they will advance to the EIVA finals on Saturday at 7 p.m. against either
top-seeded Penn State or fourth-seeded Rutgers-Newark.
