UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The George Mason golf team finished tied for seventh place in the 16-team field at the 35th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate played on the Blue Course at Penn State this weekend. The Patriots carded a team 298, their best round in the three-round tournament to move up a spot in the standings from round two.

The Penn State men's golf team earneda first-place finish. The Nittany Lions defended their home turf firing a 294 in the final round to finish with a tournament total of 880 (290-296-294), seven strokes ahead of second-place Towson (887).

The Patriots were led by Casey Thompson who finished tied for 12th overall after shooting a 10-over par three round 223. Senior Marshall Tinsley fought back after a first-round 80, to finish tied for 29th overall. He and Thompson each carded a team-low 73 for the tournament.

The Patriots travel to the NC State Spring Intercollegiate this weekend for the last regular season match before the CAA Championship on April 22 in Pinehurst, NC.
