sophomore opposite hitter Mark Jones
had an excellent week for the Patriots as
they picked up a pair of wins, including a victory over No. 12 Lewis. For his
accomplishments on the court, he was named the Eastern Intercollegiate
Volleyball Association Tait Division Player of the Week.
Jones had 37
kills and a .343 attack percentage in seven sets as the Patriots swept
Lees-McRae and beat Lewis, 3-1. Jones averaged 5.29 kills per set on 10 attacks
per set and he added five service aces, nine digs and nine total blocks as the
Patriots improved to 14-8 on the season.
Jones, a
sophomore from Glendale Heights, Ill., was sixth in the nation in kills per set
and top 50 in the country in digs per set and aces per set the last time the
NCAA released its national statistics summary. The Patriots, currently second
in the EIVA, will take on first-place Penn State this Saturday in University
Park.
