The Patriots had their highest finish of the spring season earning sixth place at the 54-hole Fireline Towson Invitational held this weekend at Prospect Bay Country Club on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. Mason finished tied with Longwood and four strokes off fifth-place Georgetown.
Mason's Silas VanSky led the Patriots with a three-round 226 and 14th place finish. He carded his best score on the final day with a two-over 74. Senior Branson Real finished tied for 23rd. Casey Thompson improved his score each of the three rounds to finish with a 237, including a three-over par 75 today.
Kent State
opened up a huge lead after the first 36 holes and couldn't be caught as
the Golden Flashes became the first school to win the Fireline Towson
Invitational a second time while the host Tigers, led by senior Nyasha Mauchaza
. The Tigers were
runners up by eight strokes over third place Rhode Island and by 13
shots over Georgetown and Seton Hall who tied for fourth.
Kent State's John
Hahn was the medalist with a 1-under par 215. He was the only golfer to
shoot under par for the tournament. He becomes the first two-time
medalist in the 13-year history of the event.
