The
George Mason men's track and field team qualified seven more individuals for
the IC4A Championships while Chris Carrington
reached the qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Carrington finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.30, surpassing the qualifying time by more than a second and a half. He is the first Mason automatic qualifier this season.
Aside from Carrington, freshman
Adrian Vaughn
was the standout performer for the team with a second-place
finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.44. He also was fifth in the 400
meters, an event in which he had previously qualified.
The mile

all reach
qualifying times, joining
Anthony LaMastro
and Carrington in the event. Mason's
final qualifier was
Michael Conway
who ran the 3000 meters in 8:25.54. Everett
Hackett who previously qualified was fourth in the event with a season-best
8:09.35.
Competing
at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas on Saturday was Rauchann Ruffin and Nick
Vaughn in the 200 meters, Lavell Handy in the triple jump and
Grace Mavugara
in
the women's triple jump. All had previously reached qualifying marks/distances.
The men's 4X400 team also competed there with an eighth-place finish in a
season-best 3:11.14
There was a contingent of the men's and women's teams that stayed closer to home over the weekend as pole vaulters and multi-event athletes traveled to Christopher Newport for the Vince Brown Invitational. On the women's side, Mandissa Marshall
was second in the pole vault while Kelsey Hinz
and Colleen McGlade
tied for fifth. Tia Boyd
was third in the shot put and Taren Henry was seventh in the high jump. On the men's side, Wes Sun won the pole vault with Lee Oxenford
and Josh Trikakis
finishing tied for second. Gustavo Osorio
was tied for fifth. David Wellington
was tied for sixth in the high jump and was seventh in the long jump.
The
Patriots will return to action next weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
