FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason head men's basketball coach Paul Hewitt is
pleased to announce that Patrick Holloway (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) has signed his
National Letter of Intent to join the Patriots for the 2012-13 season. Holloway, a 6'1" guard, represents Hewitt's
second recruiting class after current Patriots Erik Copes (Imhotep Charter) and
Anali Okoloji (Seton Hall) joined the team this past summer.
"We are very
fortunate to be adding a terrific young man like Patrick to our program," said
Hewitt. "Obviously people in the area know him well as he attends Paul VI, and
he is one of the best 3-point shooters in the D.C. metro area."
Holloway, known for his sharp shooting from beyond the arc,
drained 48 percent of his 3-point attempts last season and averaged 16.2 points
per game. A fourth-team Washington Post All-Met
selection after his junior year, he scored 34 points including eight treys in a
58-39 win over Parkland, accounting for more than half of his team's offense.
"Patrick is a complete guard who can play both of the guard
positions," said Glenn Farello, head coach at Paul VI. "He is a prolific
shooter, and of the more than 50 players I've coached who have gone on to play
at the Division I level, he is the best shooter I have ever had. I am very
pleased with Patrick's progress, as he has developed a great midrange and off
the bounce game in addition to his shooting."
Farello draws comparisons between Holloway and one of the
greatest players in Mason history, whom he had a chance to coach in his
pre-collegiate days.
"I knew Lamar Butler very well and coached him in AAU - Patrick
reminds me a lot of Lamar," Farello said.
"As a coach, what you always want is for one of your players
to go to a great fit," Farello added. "We are very familiar with George Mason
and happy that Patrick is staying close to home. Coach Hewitt made recruiting him a focal
point and did a great job of communicating his vision for Patrick. Overall it
is a great fit."
