The George Mason men's basketball team hosts the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip Off on Monday and Tuesday, beginning with Monday's game against Brown. In their only prior meeting with the Bears, the Patriots took an 89-52 victory in Fairfax in the second game of the 2008-09 season ... The Monmouth Hawks and Albany Great Danes will do battle first, with tip time set for 5 p.m. ... Brown is also 2-2 on the season, coming off a 59-52 win in Providence over Hartford on Saturday evening. The Bears lost both of their NIT Season Tip Off games thus far, a 77-68 loss to Albany and a 54-52 defeat by Manhattan. Both games were played at Syracuse's Carrier Dome. Two Bears average double-digit scoring, as Sean McGonagill and Matt Sullivan are chipping in 16 and 13.3 points per game, respectively. Monday's game will be the first true road contest of the season for Brown, who also hosted Johnson and Wales in their season opener ... Mason is 3-0 against Ivy League schools ... This is the first time in 14 years that Mason will play back-to-back home games on consecutive nights ... The Patriots will face Albany on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. to close out play in the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, with Monmouth playing Brown at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Green Machine Update:
The Green Machine will be without Doc Nix at men's and women's basketball games during the fall semester while he is on Pre-tenure Study Leave. Michael Nickens joined the faculty of the George Mason University School of Music in fall 2006 as Director of the Pep Band and as an Assistant Professor of Music. He will return for Dec 21 men's basketball game against Duquesne.
