Women's Basketball Predicted to Finish Eighth in Preseason Poll; Moton Named Honorable Mention

ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Mason women's basketball team, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Jeri Porter, was predicted to finish eighth in the 12-team Colonial Athletic Association field as announced Tuesday at Champps Restaurant during the CAA's basketball media day. The results of the poll were based on a vote of the league's head coaches.

Mason, with an overall record of 13-17 and 7-11 conference mark, finished eighth in the league last season, posting its best record since the 2003-04 season. The Patriots return 11 letterwinners from last season and two starters in Amber Easter and Taleia Moton. In addition, three newcomers were added to the roster in Annie Lawler, Rachel McNair and Talisha Watts.

Redshirt-senior Taleia Moton was named Preseason All-CAA honorable mention after leading the 2010-11 Patriots in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game. Moton ranked 11th in the conference in scoring and assists last season having averaged 2.6 assists per game.

Delaware was predicted to capture the 2012 title returning five starters from last year's 20-14 team. The Blue Hens were followed in voting by VCU, James Madison and Hofstra. Drexel and Old Dominion tied for fifth, followed by UNCW, George Mason, William & Mary, Georgia State, Towson and Northeastern.

The conference also announced its television package with the Georgia State at Mason contest to be televised live from the Patriot Center on Comcast Sports Network on February 19 at noon.

The Patriots open the 2011-12 season welcoming American on November 11 at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader as the men's team opens its season at 7 p.m. playing host to Rhode Island.
