WILMINGTON, N.C. - Behind goals from Nicole Clark, Crissy
Parker and Zoe Doherty, the George Mason women's soccer team blanked Colonial
Athletic Association foe UNC Wilmington Friday night, 3-0, at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Tiana Kallenberger was credited with two assists on the night.
Mason improved to 6-5-4 overall on the season with the
victory and 3-2-2 in CAA play, while the Seahawks dropped to 2-12, 0-6.
"This was a fantastic team effort tonight," commented head
coach Diane Drake. "We had effective production around the net which resulted
in three great goals and an important win on the road."
The Patriots opened the scoring at the 9:09 mark when
Kallenberger drove down the right side and played a great ball to find Clark
who headed the ball past UNCW's goalkeeper Caitlin Hunter for the early 1-0
advantage.
Parker doubled Mason's lead scoring her first collegiate
goal in the 41st minute. Again, Kallenberger set up the play, this
time carrying the ball down the left side and found Parker on the right side. The
junior found the back of the net on a blast off her left foot over the hands of
Hunter to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Mason capped the scoring with a Doherty goal at the 89:36
mark finishing a through ball from Liz Hodges into the upper right corner of
the net to account for the final 3-0 score.
A patient and focused backline limited the Seahawks to seven
shots on the night and only one shot on goal, while the Patriots put five of
eight shots on frame. Parker led Mason with two shots, while six additional
Patriots attempted a shot each. Lyndse Hokanson played the full game in net,
picking up her fifth win and third shutout of the season. Hunter recorded two
saves for UNCW. Mason finished the game with an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Patriots return to action visiting Georgia State on
Sunday for a noon matchup to close regular season play on the road.
