Leesburg, Va. - On
a very wet Saturday afternoon, Mason was able to take first place in both the
men's and women's races in the Mason Invitational. The race marked Mason's only home race of the season.
For the men, junior Phillip Blankenship and sophomore
Michael Conway finished first and second respectively with times of 25:44 and
25:49. Senior Parker Boudreau also
had a top 10 finish by placing sixth overall with a time of 25:59.
Mason also placed six more runners in the top 20 overall of
the race. Senior Daniel Callan
finished 12th with a time of 26:34, senior Andrew McGreal was 13th
with a time of 26:37, freshman Alex Levine placed 14th completing
the race in 26:44, sophomore David Rushing ended the race 16th with
a time of 26:47, junior Jason Hartman came in 19th place with a time
of 26:56 and freshman James Luehrs finished 20th with a time of
26:57.
The women's teams earned their first victory of the season
and were once again led by junior Rochelle Sceats who won the race with a time
of 22:54. Mason was also helped by
a strong performance from freshman Peyton Lowe who finished the race 10th
overall with a time of 23:58.
Senior Sandy Castro finished just behind Lowe in 11th place
with at time of 24 minutes even.
Three more women also placed in the top 20 for Mason. Freshman Heather Selheimer finished 13th
with a time of 24:06, sophomore Victoria Samyn came in 15th place
completing the race in 24:16 and senior Nao Ma rounded out Mason's top 20
finishers with her 17th place finish and time of 24:19.
The men and women will both race again on Friday, October 14th
in the Blue Ridge Open at Appalachian State University in Boone, Nc.
