FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason won the edge on glass, but dropped a 67-51 decision to UNC Wilmington to open this three-game homestand Thursday night in the Patriot Center. The Seahawks shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the win that pushed them to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Patriots dropped to 7-8, 1-3.

Taleia Moton, who connected on 6-of-11 field goal attempts, led the Patriots with 15 points. Brittany Poindexter and Rahneeka Saunders both followed in double digits with 14 and 10, respectively, while Amber Easter pulled down a team-high nine rebounds leading Mason to a 34-26 edge on glass, including a 16-to-4 offensive edge.

UNCW held the floor shooting 55.6 percent led by Brittany Blackwell with a game-high 25 points. Martha White followed with 14, while Jessica Freeman hit 2-of-2 from three-point range helping the Seahawks to a perfect score beyond the arc.

A close game in the early minutes, UNCW used a 9-0 spurt to take a 14-7 lead by 13:22 before Mason cut the score to one possession at 14-11 with 11:21 to play. UNCW took a double digit lead on a pair of consecutive treys before an old-fashioned three-point play from Blackwell handed the Seahawks their largest lead of the half 34-21 with 2:34 to play. Led by Blackwell's 10 first-half points, the Seahawks closed the frame with a 38-26 halftime lead.

UNCW dominated the second half, maintaining a comfortable lead, pulling out with its largest advantage of 22 points at the 4:17 mark. Poindexter came alive for the Patriots, scoring 11 of her 14 points in the final 20 minutes as Mason was held to 30.8 percent shooting in the second half.

Mason continues this three-game homestand hosting James Madison in a Colonial Athletic Association contest on Sunday, January 16. Tip in the Patriot Center is slated for 2 p.m.
