The George Mason women's soccer team was unable to pull off an upset of a nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon as the Patriots were stifled by Georgetown's defense throughout the contest, falling to the Hoyas 4-0 in the D.C. Invitational. It was Mason's first-ever loss to the Hoyas with Mason taking the last meeting in 2006.

The Patriots managed just one shot on goal in the contest, that coming in the second half as the Hoyas put two on the board in the first half and two on the board in the second. Catherine Cabot scored in the 16th minute after the Hoyas had a quick restart off a Mason foul. She took a cross from Camille Trujillo to make it 1-0. In the 36th minute, Samantha Baker had a throw-in into the box that Kaitlin Brenn got to and her volley in from the far post made it 2-0.

The game stayed that way for 40 minutes until Ingrid Wells, one of the top contenders for Big East Offensive Player of the Year, found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year. Wells took the ball up the right side, switched back and fired the ball off her left foot and it went in off the post. In the 84th minute, Baker scored from 25 yards out, unassisted, into the right side of the net to finish the scoring.

The Hoyas (5-0-0) have outscored the opposition 24-1 this season as they have risen to 22nd in the nation. Mason, which is now 1-2-1 on the year, will look to bounce back into the win column on Monday when they play American, at Georgetown, at 2:30 p.m.
