RICHMOND, Va. - After a successful weekend at the Cavalier Classic which earned her All-Tournament Team honors, freshman outside hitter Lana Zonjic was recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association as its volleyball rookie of the week. It is the first weekly honor for Zonjic and the Patriots this season.
Zonjic, a native of Zagreb, Croatia, averaged 3.28 kills and 1.43 digs per set as the Patriots went 1-1 at the weekend tournament, defeating Stony Brook in four sets before falling to host Virginia in three sets. Zonjic led the team in both matches with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, and also added four total blocks in the win over the Seawolves. Her kill total against Stony Brook matched a career high.
On the season, Zonjic ranks second in aces (9), third in kills (67) and fifth in digs (71) among the Patriots, who will return to action Saturday night in their CAA opener. Mason hosts James Madison at 7 p.m. in the RAC.
