CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Freshman Lana Zonjic led the George Mason women's volleyball team for the second straight match with 11 kills, but the Patriots were swept by host Virginia on Saturday evening at the Cavalier Classic. Set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 25-11.

Zonjic's 11 kills earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team to represent the Patriots (5-7), who finished 1-1 at the weekend tournament. Simone Asque led Virginia (6-5) with 13 kills as the Cavaliers out-hit the Patriots by a .473-to-.125 margin.

Mason opened the match strong, beginning with a 5-2 run and led by as many as three at 10-7. However, an 11-1 run by UVA swung the set back towards the host team. From there, the Patriots could get no closer than five points.

Again in the second set, the Patriots held an early lead with a 5-4 advantage. Though Virginia kept it close, they finally pulled away from a narrow 10-9 lead with a 9-0 run. The set featured five ties and two lead changes.

Into the third set, the Patriots again stayed close to their opponent early. Mason's only lead was at 2-1, but the Cavaliers led by no more than four points until they pulled away with a 15-3 run to close out the match.

Saturday's match completed the non-conference portion of Mason's schedule, and the Patriots will open their Colonial Athletic Association title defense next Saturday at 7 p.m. when they welcome James Madison to the RAC.
