Women's Soccer Schedule Has Strong Regional Flavor

Davis Selected Preseason All-CAA

George Mason redshirt senior Omolyn Davis was selected to the preseason first-team All-CAA women's soccer team this week in a vote conducted by the conference's head coaches. Davis, who was named first-team All-CAA last year, is Mason's lone representative on the 11-player squad.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Davis led Mason in scoring and points last year and tied for the team lead in assists. She was named NSCAA All-Region in 2009 and last week, she was selected to the Hermann Award Watch List, an award given to the nation's top player. She was chosen to the preseason team in the midfield.

Northeastern placed two players on the preseason team including sophomore forward Devin Petta, who was the conference's Player and Rookie of the Year last year. Sandra Magnusdottir, a sophomore defender, was Northeastern's other selection. James Madison also place two on the preseason team in senior forward Cate Tisinger and senior midfielder Teresa Rynier. Hofstra led all schools with three preseason All-CAA selections. Senior forward Salma Tarik, senior midfelder Tiffany Yovino and junior midfielder Courtney Breen were the Pride's three selections.

Rounding out the preseason All-CAA's defense was VCU senior Myriam Bouchard, William & Mary junior defender Diana Weigel and senior goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship. The George Mason women's soccer team will open the season with an exhibition match on Friday against George Washington at 6 p.m. The regular season begins on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Howard at 7 p.m. Mason's regular-season home opener is Sunday, Aug. 29 vs. Navy at 3 p.m.
