The George Mason men's basketball team will be one of eight teams to play in the 2010 Charleston Classic this coming season as six of the field's eight teams were announced today. The tournament, a 12-game, three-day event will be played Nov. 18-21 at Carolina First Arena in Charleston, S.C.

Mason will be joined in the field by Georgetown, North Carolina State, Charlotte, East Carolina and Wofford with the two other teams to be announced at a later date. Both Georgetown and Wofford played in the NCAA Tournament last season while North Carolina State played in the NIT.

"This year's field for the Charleston Classic once again demonstrates the Charleston Classic is building a tradition of outstanding basketball in one of the country's great destination cities," said Dan Shoemaker, vice president, collegiate development, ESPN Regional Television. "The Classic being heavy on teams from the Carolinas as well as storied programs like Georgetown and George Mason insures an exciting event for the teams and fans alike."

Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The first two games will be played Nov. 18 and 19 and after a day off, the final games will be played on Sunday, Nov. 21. The two teams that remain undefeated through the first two days will play a championship match on ESPN2.
