FAIRFAX, Va. - The third-seeded George Mason Patriots will host the sixth-seeded Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders in an EIVA Championship Quarterfinal match on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the RAC. The meeting will be the third of the season between the two schools.

George Mason (7-18) is winless against Rutgers-Newark (13-12), the champions of the EIVA Hay Division, this season. In the first meeting of the season on March 5, the Patriots lost a close five-set match against the Scarlet Raiders at the RAC Gym. Mason was swept by Rutgers-Newark in the last meeting between the two schools on April 3 at The Golden Dome.

The winner of the contest advances to the EIVA Semifinals on Thursday, April 29 at Rec Hall in University Park, Pa., the home of top-seeded Penn State. The championship match will be played on Saturday, May 1 at 7 p.m. The winner of the EIVA title earns a berth in the NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball Championships hosted by Stanford on May 6-8.

Sophomore Lance Rogers, a First-Team EIVA All-East Team selection, leads the Patriots into Saturday's quarterfinal match. Rogers ranks among the conference leaders in blocks per set and hitting percentage.

The Old Bridge, N.J. native has started 17 matches and played in 75 sets at middle blocker for the Patriots. Rogers is second in the EIVA in hitting percentage (.440) and fifth in blocks per set (1.28). Rogers averaged 1.92 kills per set and 2.69 points per set during the regular season.

Senior middle blocker Jon Keller, junior setter Jeff Zornig and sophomore outside hitter Marcin Midura all made the EIVA All-East Team for the Scarlet Raiders. Keller was named to the first team while Zornig and Midura earned berths on the second unit. Keller ranks second in the EIVA in blocks with an average of 1.46 per set and is fifth in hitting percentage at .428. Zornig leads the conference in service aces with 78 for a 0.56 average per set while also ranking sixth in assists average at 11.21 per set. Midura is 10th in the EIVA with a kills average of 3.82 per set.

Individual tickets to men's volleyball matches cost $5 for adults and $2 for youth, senior citizens and George Mason University faculty and staff. All full-time enrolled students at George Mason University will be admitted free with a valid Mason student ID. Tickets will be available for purchase at the entrance to the RAC Gym one hour prior to the start of the match.
