The George Mason women's soccer team continued its spring season on Saturday when the Patriots took a pair of victories while participating in the Kicks Against Breast Cancer event at the Germantown Soccer Complex, beating Navy 1-0 and taking a 2-1 win over Villanova. The Patriots are now 3-1 in the spring season, having previously beaten Loyola, 2-0, and losing to Maryland, 3-0.
Against Navy, a pair of rising seniors combined for the team's lone goal. Omolyn Davis, a NSCAA First-Team All-Region selection in 2009 found Capricia Alston for the match's lone goal. Against NCAA tournament team Villanova, Tiana Kallenberger, coming off one of the best freshman seasons in school history, showed that she will be a forced to be reckoned with as a sophomore as she set up Davis for the team's first goal, then rising junior Zania Barnum for the second goal.
Mason got terrific play in goal from Alex Bodenschatz and from the back line of Kelly Thomas, Nicole Peters and Kimmy Moss.
Mason's previous spring win, also over a 2009 NCAA Tournament team, came with big contributions from Chrissy Parker. The rising sophomore set up the first goal as she brought the ball up the left side and found Davis at the top of the 18-yard box. The second goal was Parker's as she scored inside the six-yard box on a cross from rising junior Alyssa Anderson.
Mason will compete next weekend when they play on Friday against George Washington at 6:30 p.m. and against Georgetown at 7:45 p.m. Both games will be played at Georgetown. The spring season concludes on Sunday, April 25 with the Alumni Game at 11 a.m. on the Mason soccer practice field.
