The George Mason men's volleyball team was unable to pick up a road win on Saturday night as the Patriots, playing at Lewis, dropped a 3-0 decision to the Flyers. The Patriots challenged in the first set but were unable to stay with Lewis in the final two as Mason lost 37-35, 30-21 and 30-24.
Michael Kvidahl had 12 kills to lead the Patriots but Mason hit just .183 as a team, and just .000 after the first set. Max McFarland had seven digs and Brandon Joyner had 27 assists.
Mason led in the first set 29-27 but couldn't put Lewis away. The teams traded the lead as the set went long with the Patriots going ahead 35-34 on Andy Frontz' service error. But Lewis came up with three straight kills to end the set.
In the second set, Lewis jumped out to a 14-7 lead and Mason never got closer than four the rest of the way. In the final set, things were close as Mason trailed 23-21, but Lewis went on a 4-1 run to take control and close out the Patriots.
Mason returns to action on Friday, April 2 when the Patriots play at Princeton in an EIVA Tait Division match. The opening serve is slated for 7 p.m.
