Despite 21 kills by freshman outside hitter Michael Kvidahl, the George Mason men's volleyball team was unable to overcome the Ball State Cardinals on Friday evening at the RAC. The Patriots lost by set scores of 25-30, 30-27, 22-30 and 23-30.
Mason, which dropped to 4-11 overall this season, has lost five consecutive matches and nine of its last 10. Ball State improved to 2-0 against George Mason this season while upping its record to 11-7.
Kvidahl led the Patriots with 21 kills on 42 swings for a hitting percentage of .357. The East Brunswick, N.J. native also recorded a team-high six total blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Andrew Dentler reached double figures in both kills (13) and digs (12). Sophomore middle blocker Lance Rogers chipped in 10 kills on 14 swings.
Four Cardinals reached double figures in kills. Larry Wrather led the way with 16 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Ethan Pheister led all players with 59 assists in the match.
George Mason returns to the court tomorrow against IPFW. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the RAC. The match will be the Broadside Game of the Week. All George Mason University students in attendance will receive a free Chick-fil-A sandwich while supplies last.
