Patriots Enjoy a Snow Day in Delaware (Video)
The women's basketball game between Mason and Delaware has been postponed one day due to the weather. The game will begin Monday at approximately 3:45 pm, following the UD-UNCW men's basketball game which was also postponed to 1 p.m. Monday.
The George Mason women's basketball team opens its final tough stretch of road games in which it plays three of four away from home, beginning with a Monday afternoon tilt at Delaware, the second game with the Fightin' Blue Hens this year.
Delaware sits in fifth place in the conference standings with a 6-4 mark in CAA play and 14-7 record overall, having won three of their last four with the lone loss coming in overtime at Drexel. On Thursday evening the Blue Hens cruised to a 84-55 win over William & Mary. Elena Delle Donne continues to power UD, as she ranks second in the country in scoring (25.6 ppg) and third in free throw percentage (91.7 percent).
The Blue Hens lead the all-time series by a 15-10 margin, including wins in the last three matchups. Mason's last win against UD came at the Bob Carpenter Center, a 52-42 win on Feb. 10, 2008.
Last time they met, Mason held the halftime lead, but it was the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens who came away with a 53-44 Colonial Athletic Association victory on Jan. 7 at Patriot Center, Mason's first home loss of the 2009-10 season. The Patriots fell to 7-6 and 0-2 in conference play, while UD (9-4, 1-1 CAA) rebounded from a one-point CAA loss on Sunday for its first conference victory. Junior Ashleigh Braxton led the Patriots with 11 points while classmate Angelee LaTouche pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, but it was Elena Delle Donne's 25 points and 11 rebounds that paced the Blue Hens to victory.
Of historical note, Rashauna Hobbs has drained 11 3-pointers this season, including two in the game against Hofstra, which has moved the senior guard into sole possession of 10th place in career treys with 98.
