On the opening night of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic Tournament on Friday evening, George Mason lost to No. 13 Ohio State in three sets. The two-day tournament is being hosted by Springfield College at Blake Arena in Springfield, Mass.
Set scores were 30-12, 30-16 and 30-25 in favor of the Buckeyes. With the win, Ohio State ups its overall record to 10-5, while George Mason falls to 4-7.
Freshman outside hitter Michael Kvidahl led the Patriots with five kills. Joe Norton, a sophomore outside hitter, totaled a match-high 10 digs.
The Buckeyes were led by the duo of John Klanac and Shawn Sangrey. Klanac, a junior, led the team with 16 kills while hitting at a .483 clip. Sangrey, a sophomore opposite hitter, had 14 kills and hit .360 for the match. Steven Kehoe, a junior setter, directed the offense with 39 assists.
George Mason will play in the consolation match against Springfield College on Saturday at 6 p.m. Ohio State will take on UC-Santa Barbara in the championship match on Saturday at 8 p.m.
