Men's Volleyball Loses in Straight Sets to No. 15 Lewis

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason returned home to the RAC Gym on Friday evening to face a tough nonconference opponent in No. 15 Lewis. The Patriots were unable to overcome the Flyers, falling by a final score of 3-0 in the match. Set scores were 30-21, 30-21 and 30-28 in favor of Lewis.

The loss drops Mason's record to 3-4 on the season. Lewis improved to 8-2 with the win. The Flyers were strong on the attack all night, hitting .427 as a team.

Lewis hit .625 in the first set and .500 in the second set to put the Patriots in a 2-0 hole heading into the third set. In the third set, Mason played its most competitive volleyball of the evening. Trailing 26-24, freshman Michael Kvidahl served two consecutive aces to tie the score. The two sides traded the next four points until the Flyers took a one-point lead on a kill by Aaron Flick. Lewis ended the match on the ensuing point on a double-block of a Mark Jones' attempt by Mike Iandolo and Flick.

Sophomore outside hitter Andrew Dentler led the Patriots with 10 kills on 27 swings. Senior libero Luke Maloney finished with a match-high 12 digs.

Senior outside hitter Nathan Klaas hit .455 with a match-high 13 kills for the Flyers. Freshman opposite hitter Ian Karbiener finished with 11 kills on 21 swings for an attack percentage of .476.

George Mason faces another ranked opponent tomorrow evening in No. 12 Loyola (Ill.). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the RAC.
