George Mason Athletics Women's Basketball 2/13/2010 12:00:00 AM

Feb. 13, 2010

The George Mason women's basketball team returns home to host Old Dominion on Patriots Go Pink Day at the Patriot Center, in a game that will be televised live by Comcast SportsNet. Al Koken and Christy Winters-Scott will have the call at 2 p.m, while the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free pink Mason hat.

The Patriots are coming home after a whirlwind week of travel in games at Delaware and UNC Wilmington, with both trips affected by the winter weather. Mason stands at 8-15 overall and 1-11 in CAA play, led by junior Brittany Poindexter who leads the team with 12.3 points per game, including a game-high 15 on Thursday at UNCW.

Old Dominion sits atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 10-2 mark in conference play including wins in nine of its last 10 games. The Lady Monarch offense is led by three scorers averaging 11 points or better per game, including top scorer Shadasia Green who is chipping in 11.8 per contest.

ODU and Mason did battle exactly one month ago and while Poindexter reached double-digit scoring for the 10th time this season, Old Dominion gained control early and captured a 79-49 at the Constant Center in Norfolk. Poindexter led the Patriots with 15 points while a trio of Lady Monarchs hit double figures, led by Shadasia Green's 16 points.

The Lady Monarchs hold the series advantage, 45-1, with the lone Patriot victory coming on Feb. 22 last season at Patriot Center, a 63-57 win which also came on PinkZone Day.

The Patriots will officially "Go Pink" on Sunday afternoon as part of the PinkZone initiative. The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Sunday's game is also Women's Basketball Alumnae Day, as the Patriots will welcome back a number of former players who donned the Green and Gold.
