FAIRFAX, Va. - Brittany Poindexter scored a game-high 21 points leading George Mason to a 74-48 victory over Stony Brook to open a five-game homestand Thursday night in the Patriot Center. Recording 11 steals, Mason forced 23 Seawolves turnovers and converted the miscues into 30 points to pick up the win.

Moton was 6-for-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe while also dishing out eight of Mason's 16 assists. The Patriots won the edge on glass, 37-33, led by Evelyn Lewis and Angelee LaTouche, each with 11. LaTouche picked up four steals as Mason limited its turnovers to 15. The Patriots outscored the Seawolves in the paint, 40-20.

Stony Brook (3-5) was led in scoring by Kirsten Jeter with 11 points and Destiny Jacobs on the boards with 10 rebounds.

Mason carried a 10-3 run to close the first half into the final 20 minutes, spurting to a double-digit lead off a Lewis layup at the 16:22 mark for a 38-27 advantage. The Patriots held the Seawolves to single digits through 10 minutes in the second half while escalating their lead using a 28-7 run coming out of the break. After Mason took a 21-point lead following a LaTouche three-point play at 12:50, the closest Stony Brook would come in the game was 25 points twice. Poindexter led the Patriot offense in the second half with 11 points.

In the first half, Mason shot 47.6 percent from the floor to take a seven-point lead, 30-23, into the break. Poindexter was 4-for-7 with 10 points to lead the Patriots who used an 8-0 run to reverse a three-point deficit and take a 20-15 lead with 6:28 to play in the opening half. Jacobs snapped the run, cutting the score to three points before Amanda Corona had the opportunity to tie the score shooting three at the free throw line. Corona connected on only one before Whitney Davis hit a jumper to tie the score at 20-all at the 5:20 mark.

Moton hit a trey at 4:23 to spark a 9-2 Mason run over the final 4:23 of the half. Poindexter scored four points in the run as Moton added five for the 30-23 halftime score. Stony Brook converted six offensive boards into 11 second chance points and led on the glass, 17-13. However, led by Moton and LaTouche each with two steals, Mason recorded six steals in the half to force 12 Seawolves turnovers into 16 points.

The win marks the best offensive output since a 76-57 win over High Point on December 4, 2009. The Patriots continue this five-game homestand welcoming Ohio to the Patriot Center on Sunday, December 12. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
