FAIRFAX, Va. – Double-doubles from Amber Easter and Evelyn Lewis led the George Mason women's basketball team to a 73-45 victory over Longwood Wednesday night in the Patriot Center. The Patriots shot 47.5 percent from the floor to push their win streak to three games and move back to the .500 mark with a 5-5 ledger. Longwood dipped to 2-9.

Three Patriots posted double-figure scoring performances led by Lewis with 17 points. Lewis added 14 rebounds for her first double-double as a Patriot as Easter tallied her first of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Brittany Poindexter rounded out the double-digit performances with 16 points. Mason out-rebounded Longwood 49-27 and outscored the Lancers in the paint, 40-12. The Patriots picked up 19 assists led by Poindexter and Rahneeka Saunders each with five and Easter followed with four.

Mason came out of the break strong, pushing its lead out to 30 points at 51-21, but Longwood cut the score to 54-30 using a 7-0 run. The Patriots held steady, regaining a 31 point lead on a Christine Weithman three-pointer and closed out the contest going 5-of-6 at the free throw line over the final 1:03 of play. Mason shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the second half, led by Lewis with 12 points, and was 3-for-3 from three-point range.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half with only two field goals made in the opening four minutes, both coming from Longwood. Mason recorded its first point on a Poindexter free throw and hit its first field goal at 14:54, also coming from Poindexter. An Easter three-pointer at 13:43 knotted the score and sparked a 16-0 run over 5:13 of action that Mason used to convert a three-point deficit into a 13-point lead, 21-8.  The Lancers hit their first bucket in almost seven minutes of play with a trey from Chelsea Coward, but the Patriots held strong, limiting Longwood to only one three-pointer and a free throw over the final 6:21 of play for Mason's 36-15 halftime advantage.

Poindexter led the offense for Mason with 13 points in the opening frame as Easter and Lewis each pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 29-16 edge on glass over Longwood.

The Patriots return to the action on Wednesday, December 29 welcoming Norfolk State to the Patriot Center. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
