For the second consecutive season, the George Mason women's basketball team opened the season with a victory. The Patriots defeated UMass 60-55 in the Mullins Center for the first road season opening win since the 2002-03 season. Fairfield also enters Monday night's contest with a 1-0 record after defeating Quinnipiac 65-48. The non-conference foes met last season in the Patriot Center with Mason taking the decision, 70-65.
