Wilmington, N.C. - The George Mason men's cross country team challenged William & Mary for the top spot in Saturday's Colonial Athletic Association Championship, contested at UNC Wilmington, but the Patriots were unable to snap the Tribe's decade-long streak as Mason finished second to William & Mary which took home its 11th-straight CAA title. For the first time in seven years, the Tribe did not win the women's crown as James Madison finished first followed by the Tribe, and then Mason.

Six of the top eight runners in the men's 8k race ran for the Tribe with Zach Gates winning the race. Only Mason senior Scott Tekesky and junior Everett Hackett managed to crack the Tribe's dominance at the top as they finished fourth and seventh, respectively. Tekesky finished with a time of 24:23 while Hackett crossed the line in 24:33. Three other Mason runners were among the top 20 as freshman Michael Conway was 12th (24:55), junior Parker Boudreau was 13th (24:59) and sophomore John Holt was 20th (25:14). Junior Robert Reynolds was 22nd (25:22). Mason finished with 55 points, comfortably ahead of third-place Northeastern. The Tribe had 17 points.

Alison Parris won the individual women's race in a time of 20:23. Her teammate Stacey Nobles was second in 20:49 while William & Mary's Elaina Balouris was third in 20:50. In fourth was Mason sophomore Laura Sinclair in a time of 20:54. The Dukes finished with 28 points while William & Mary had 46. Mason had 102 points, just ahead of Northeastern (114 points) and Towson (122 points). Mason's other top-25 finishers were junior Nao Ma in 19th (22:16) and freshman Victoria Samyn in 25th (22:27)

The men's and women's teams will continue to compete this fall as they both will take part in the Cavalier Invitational in Charlottesville on Friday at 5 p.m.
