Women's Volleyball Rallies to Beat Towson, 3-2

Towson, Md. - The George Mason women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Friday evening to beat Towson, 3-2 and keep pace in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with just five regular-season matches remaining. Lana Zonjic had 14 kills and just one error while leading Mason with 21 digs as the Patriots stayed in third place in the CAA.

The Patriots dropped the first set 25-18 then saw Towson win seven of the final 11 points to take the second set, 25-22. The Patriots trailed in the third set, 19-18 but went on a run to go up 24-21 before holding on to take the third set, 25-23. The fourth set saw Mason truly rise to the challenge as, trailing 18-13, Mason won six straight points to pull ahead and again gritted out a 25-23 win.

The final set was tight over the first few points with the teams tied 4-4. But Mason won five of the next six points to take control and closed out the Tigers, 15-10.

Noelle Fanella had 13 kills while Fernanda Bartels had 28 assists. Four Tigers had double-digit kills, led by Katy Buck, but Towson hit just .155 in the match.

Mason will return to action tomorrow when the Patriots play at first-place Delaware looking to hand the Blue Hens their second conference loss of the season.
