Box Score

Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team said goodbye to four seniors on Sunday afternoon and one of them had a match to remember as Capricia Alston scored a pair of goals as the Patriots beat second-place Georgia State, 2-0. With the win, Mason improved to 9-6-1 on the year, 5-3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action. Georgia State fell to 11-4-2, 5-2-1.

Mason jumped on the board early when, in the 9th minute, senior Omolyn Davis found senior Capricia Alston on the left side and she went near post to put the Patriots ahead, 1-0. Mason was the aggressor for most of the first half and nearly made it 2-0 just before the break when Zoe Doherty had a point blank shot then passed the rebound to Omolyn Davis, who also had a clean look inside five yards. Both times Kellianne Collins made brilliant saves to keep it a one-goal game.

The insurance goal came in the 82nd minute when Andersen, from the left wing, found an unmarked Alston at the far post and she tapped the ball in for the easiest goal of her career. Mason finished the match with a 21-6 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Each team was given three yellow cards while Mason was whistled for 11 fouls and Georgia State was called for eight. The match was the final one at home for Alston, Davis, Evan Feldman and Kimmy Moss.

The Patriots will return to action on Friday when they play at Delaware at 7 p.m.
