Mason men's basketball coach Jim Larranaga spent four straight summers as a coach at the ultimate basketball fantasy camp, the Michael Jordan Senior Flight School. Given the opportunity to design a camp of his own for men 35 years and older, the coach is proud to announce the Jim Larranaga Senior Elite Classic.
The inaugural event will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 23-24 at George Mason University. Campers from more than 10 states, including many veterans of the Michael Jordan Senior Flight School as well as Mason supporters, have signed up for the Classic which will take place at Mason's Recreation & Athletic Complex (RAC).
"We are excited to host this very special event for our hoop junkie friends who not only follow college basketball but still love playing the game," said Larranaga, who is in his 14th season at the helm of Patriots basketball. "We've been fortunate to get to know some truly outstanding businessmen both locally and from around the country who will compete in this unique tournament, which is a fundraiser for our program. We appreciate the support from our friends both near and far."
Coach L and his staff will begin the weekend with a practice session followed by a draft which will determine the teams. After grueling it out on the hardwood in games throughout the afternoon session, the camp will break for dinner at Brion's Grille before an evening video and awards session. All campers will reside in the recently opened Mason Inn on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax.
On the schedule for Sunday are tournament games, including a camp championship, as well as an awards ceremony.
