FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's basketball team unveiled the conference portion of its 2010-11 schedule on Tuesday, completing the slate of games that will await head coach Jim Larranaga and the Patriots this upcoming season. Mason had previously released its non-conference schedule in July.
The Patriots are set to open conference play in December with a home contest against UNC Wilmington on Saturday, December 4. Mason takes a break from Colonial Athletic Association play until the start of the new calendar year, when it hosts Delaware on Monday, January 3.
A three-game road trip follows, beginning with a trip to Long Island to face Hofstra on Wednesday, January 5. The Patriots return to the Commonwealth for a matchup at Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan. 5 before heading north once more for their game on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Northeastern. It is one of two times during the season that the Patriots are scheduled to play three CAA games within a six-day span.
Two home games follow, as Mason hosts Georgia State on Saturday, Jan. 15 and Drexel on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Mason's final stretch of three games in six days comes next, with road games at James Madison (Saturday, Jan. 22) and at Delaware (Monday, Jan. 24) before a Wednesday, Jan. 26 home tilt against Towson. A busy month of January is closed out on the road when Mason travels to William & Mary for a game on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The February schedule features four CAA home games, starting with Hofstra on Wednesday, Feb. 2 and ODU on Saturday, Feb. 5. Mason travels to UNCW on Wednesday, Feb. 9 before returning home for a matchup with JMU on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Patriots make a short trip to Richmond to square off against VCU on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
On Saturday, Feb. 19 Mason will participate in the annual ESPN BracketBuster event, traveling to a road matchup against an opponent that will be named later in the season. The home finale for the Patriots comes next as they host Northeastern on Thursday, Feb. 24, and Mason closes out the regular season on the road at Georgia State on Saturday, Feb. 26.
The CAA Championship will be contested at the Richmond Coliseum from March 4-7, 2011, with an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line.
Mason's non-conference schedule includes home games against Harvard (Nov. 13), Radford (Nov. 24), Florida Atlantic (Nov. 27), George Washington (Dec. 1) and Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 8. In addition to traveling to the ESPN Charleston Classic from Nov. 18-21, Mason visits Liberty (Dec. 11), Duquesne (Dec. 22) and Dayton (Dec. 29) to round out its schedule.
Game times, along with television coverage, will be announced on Tuesday, October 19 as part of CAA Media Day.
