BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Holly Goode and junior Noelle Fanella each slammed 14 kills as the George Mason women's volleyball team won the final three sets in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14) victory at Northeastern on Friday evening.
Mason improved to 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play and 7-7 overall, while the Huskies fell to 2-1 in conference and 11-6 overall.
Goode posted a double-double as she added 12 digs, just shy of classmate Fernanda Bartels' match-high 17 digs which she paired with 32 assists, also a match high, for a double-double. Janelle Tucker posted a match-high 17 kills to pace the Huskies, who were out-hit by a .264-to-.083 margin and out-blocked by Mason, 11-to-6.
Save for the first point of the match, the Patriots never led in set one and the Huskies held an advantage as large as eight points. Mason cut it to one point as late as 22-21 after a Kelsey Bohman kill, but three straight Husky points closed out the set.
In the second set, the Patriots jumped out to the lead early with an 8-3 run and held on to the lead until 11-11. NU jumped in front at 15-13, but a 6-0 Patriot run returned the lead and Mason held on to level the scoreboard.
The third set was all Mason from the outset, as the Green and Gold tallied the first seven points and held a lead throughout that was never threatened any closer than four points. Mason hit .357 compared to .000 for the Huskies.
Mason continued to control the tempo of the match into the fourth set, as the Patriots never trailed and closed out the match on a 10-1 run.
The Patriots continue their northern road trip as they face Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hempstead.
