Fairfax, Va. - For the first time since Bill Clinton was President, the George Mason women's soccer team is 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Patriots (7-3-1, 3-0-0) took a hard-fought 1-0 win over VCU (4-5-2, 0-3-0) on Friday to remain tied for first place in the CAA.

In the 26th minute, the Patriots snapped the scoreless tie thanks to being in the right place at the right time. Tiana Kallenberger came down the left flank and fired a point-blank shot on goal. Megan Lynch, the VCU keeper, stopped the shot but the rebound went wide right to an unmarked Mary Kate Lowry and the sophomore took the ball wide of the frame and went far post for the 1-0 lead.

Mason nearly made it 2-0 in the 61st minute as Kelly Thomas served the direct kick into the box and Tiana Kallenberger got her head on the ball, just beating Lynch. But Molly Allen headed the ball clear of the open net to keep it a one-goal game.

Mason outshot VCU 14-6 and had an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Alex Bodenschatz stopped all three shots on goal while Megan Lynch was good for seven saves, but the one she let through proved to be the difference.

The Patriots will return to action on Sunday when they play their first road CAA match of the season as they travel to James Madison (6-5-0, 2-1-0) for a 1 p.m. tilt. James Madison beat the Patriots last season and when the two teams finished the regular season tied for fourth, it was the Dukes who earned the final spot in the CAA Tournament while Mason saw its season come to an end.
