NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Brittany Poindexter reached double-digit scoring for the 10th time this season, but Old Dominion gained control early and captured a 79-49 Colonial Athletic Association victory on Thursday evening at the Constant Center.

The Patriots fell to 7-8 and 0-4 in CAA play as they remained winless on the road, while the Lady Monarchs improved to 5-9 and 3-1 in conference play.Poindexter led the Patriots with 15 points while a trio of Lady Monarchs hit double figures, led by Shadasia Green's 16 points.

ODU jumped out to a 6-0 lead as they connected on their first three field goal attempts while Mason was unsuccessful in its first five tries from the field. Mason's scoring drought extended nearly four and a half minutes into the game, before Eley's jumper at the 15:32 mark made the score 13-2. That sparked a 9-0 Mason run that cut the gap to four points, ending with a fast-break layup by Poindexter at the 12:33 mark. The Patriots would match that margin three minutes later as the second of back-to-back Rashauna Hobbs treys made it 21-17.

Mason could move no closer in the first half and while the deficit stayed in single digits for most of the opening period, the Lady Monarchs scored the final three points of the half, giving them a 38-28 lead heading into the locker room. Eley and Poindexter each chipped in seven to lead the Patriots, who were outshot by a 44.8-to-33.3 percent margin.

Another big scoring run by Old Dominion kicked off the second half, as ODU opened with 11 in a row. The Lady Monarch lead would keep growing in the period as the Patriot shooting effort continued to stumble. Mason was 7-of-32 from the field in the second half (21.9 percent), while ODU sank half of their 30 field goal attempts.

Mason will return to the Patriot Center hardwood on Sunday afternoon, hosting Northeastern at 2 p.m.
