RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Kelsey Bohman was a key part of the George Mason women's volleyball team's winning ways last week, and the Colonial Athletic Association recognized her efforts as Bohman was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor for Bohman and the Patriots this season.
Bohman, a 6'1" middle blocker, totaled 22 blocks during the Patriots' four matches this past week. In the 3-1 victory over Cornell, Bohman registered 11 total blocks which tied her for the third-highest single-match total in school history. She also added a career-high four digs and eight kills.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was a major force offensively as well, slamming 35 kills on .420 hitting, including a career-high 12 kills against Morehead State. After helping lead Mason to the Patriot Invitational title, Bohman was recognized as the Best Hitter of the tournament.
On the season, Bohman leads the Patriots with 38 total blocks and ranks third on the team with 50 kills, trailing seniors Laura Turner (54) and Rebecca Walter (51).
Bohman and the Patriots are back in action on Wednesday evening, opening up a 10-match road swing with a 7 p.m. tilt at UMBC. The Retrievers enter the match with a 2-3 record after going 1-2 at the Long Beach State/UC Irvine Invitational. Ashley Oscars leads the UMBC offense, averaging 2.74 kills per set.
