BALTIMORE - George Mason traveled to Baltimore, Md. to take on UMBC in its final exhibition match of the 2009 season on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots open their 2009 men's soccer season on Wednesday, Sept. 2 when they host Howard at the D.C. College Cup.

Mason fell to UMBC by a final score of 2-1 in Wednesday's exhibition. The Patriots, who defeated Virginia 1-0 in overtime on Aug. 21, finished with a 1-1 record in the preseason.

"We played well despite the result. UMBC scored on two terrific set piece goals that were very well taken," said George Mason men's soccer head coach Greg Andrulis. "Overall, our performance was an improvement from our first preseason game. We were able to try different combinations and played a significant number of players. As we continue to work through different lineups and get the right combination of players out on the field together, we are going to have good moments and moments that need work. Both were a reality against UMBC. A couple of new players, Alhagi Toure and Victor Freeman, showed some flashes in the attacking third, and Chase Miller and Brent Brockman were solid in the back. So far so good; we are making progress as a group and developing our team identity."
