FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason's men's and women's soccer teams have added a familiar face to their coaching staffs. Former Patriot standout John O'Hara will return to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach for both programs, focusing primarily on coaching the goalkeepers for both teams.

"We are thrilled to add a quality person like John O'Hara to our staff," said George Mason men's soccer head coach Greg Andrulis. "His experience as a Mason Hall of Famer, his connections to our alumni and his knowledge of our University and soccer program are all a plus. His experience as a professional athlete and well-respected goalkeeper coach will serve our team in a positive way."

"John is a fantastic hire for both the men's and women's programs," said George Mason women's soccer head coach Diane Drake. "He is that extraordinary balance of Mason culture, having played at Mason and then in the MLS. He has a quiet, confident demeanor that will be the perfect fit to our staff."

O'Hara solidified his position as one of the top goalkeepers in school history when he was inducted into the 2009 Men's Soccer Hall of Fame class with Henry Castaneda and John Kelly. The Foxford, Ireland native joined the Patriots in 2001 and made an immediate impact in goal, earning CAA Rookie of the Year honors. He was selected to the College Soccer News Freshman All-American Team that same season. A four-time All-CAA selection and three-time VaSID All-Virginia selection, O'Hara was named Second-Team All-South Atlantic Region in 2002. O'Hara ranks among Mason's career leaders in minutes played (2nd, 7501), saves (4th, 286) and shutouts (2nd, 27).

After participating in the MLS Player Combine following his senior season, O'Hara moved onto the professional ranks, playing for the Sligo Rovers (Eircom League), Carolina RailHawks (USL First Division) and the Wilmington Hammerheads (USL Second Division). O'Hara most recently played with DC United of the MLS.
