Richmond, Va. -
Seniors John Vaughan and Darryl Monroe, sophomore Cam Long and freshman Ryan Pearson all received Colonial Athletic Association honors on Thursday night on the eve of the 2009 CAA Tournament in Richmond, Va.
Vaughan and Monroe were named second-team All-CAA, Long was named third-team All-CAA, Pearson was named to the All-Rookie Team and Vaughan was named to the All-Defensive Team.
For Vaughan, it was his first year-end honor since being selected to the 2005 All-Rookie Team. Pearson is Mason's first selection to that team since Vaughan, Will Thomas and Folarin Campbell were selected four years ago. Vaughan is third in the CAA in 3-point field-goal percentage and seventh in overall field-goal percentage. He has been Mason's best perimeter defender for the past three seasons.
Monroe earns his first CAA year-end honor after sitting out 2007-08 with a medical redshirt. Monroe leads the CAA in field-goal percentage and is second in rebounding. He is fourth in the CAA in double-doubles this year.
Long leads Mason in scoring and assists and is second in rebounding, steals, 3-pointers and 3-point shooting percentage. He is currently fifth in the CAA in field-goal percentage and he is among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.
Pearson is averaging 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in just 18.0 minutes per game. Pearson is currently day-to-day with a hand injury.
Mason's three All-CAA selections are tops in the conference and it is the 14th-straight season a Mason player has been named All-CAA, the second-longest active streak behind Old Dominion's 18-straight.
Mason, the second seed in the CAA Tournament, will begin tournament play on Saturday in the quarterfinals against either seventh-seeded James Madison or 10th-seeded William & Mary. That game will tip at 6 p.m.
