The George Mason men's volleyball team began a three-match road trip to the Midwest with a 3-0 loss to the Lewis Flyers on Thursday evening at Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill. Senior Kyle Gramit paced the Patriot attack with 10 kills in the match.
Mason was unable to rebound from a close 31-29 loss in an opening set that featured 14 ties and four lead changes. The Patriots were unable to take the lead in the second or third sets.
With the loss, Mason's record drops to 9-10 overall in 2009. Lewis improved its season record to 17-5.
Gramit was the only Patriot to reach double-digit kills in the match. Brandon Joyner started at setter and recorded 32 assists.
Drew Pickering registered a match-high 16 kills on .300 hitting for the Flyers. Nathan Klaas added 12 kills.
Mason returns to action on Friday evening with an 8 p.m. ET match against Loyola (Ill.) in Chicago, Ill.
