The George Mason women's basketball team will look to continue building momentum into the CAA Championship as the Patriots look for a third-straight home win Thursday against Hofstra. Tip time is 7 p.m. at Patriot Center.
Fans can follow the action live with Mason All-Access, with George Malenich and senior Mason men's basketball player John Vaughan on the call.
Hofstra enters Thursday's contest with a 15-11 record and 7-8 mark in conference play, which places the Pride seventh in the CAA standings. The Pride has dropped three of their last four games, including a 55-43 home loss to VCU on Sunday afternoon. Jess Fuller leads the Hofstra offense with 12 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Mason leads the all-time series, 9-3, including a victory in their most recent battle last season.
Last time they met, senior Moni Akintunde notched her 14th career double-double to lead Mason to its first conference victory of the season, a 60-47 victory at Hofstra on Jan. 10, 2008 in Hempstead. Mason (7-5, 1-1 CAA) improved to .500 in the conference while notching its first road win of the season, while the Pride dropped to 2-11, 0-2 in the CAA. Akintunde's 12 rebounds were a game high, and shechipped in 16 points to nearly match the game's high scorer, senior Lateisha Wade, who poured in 17 points.
Sunday's win over Old Dominion, while doubling the Patriots' conference victory total to two this season, carried far more historical significance. It was the first time in program history that Mason has defeated the Lady Monarchs, ending a stretch of 44 losses over 24 seasons of play. The streak was the longest among Division I schools against one opponent.
Thursday's game is the second-to-last home game for the Patriots this season, as they will travel to Drexel Sunday before closing out the regular season on Senior Night next Wednesday against Delaware.
