Box Score

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Brittney Wilkins exploded for 17 points in the second half en route to a team-high 19, but the Towson Tigers held off the George Mason women's basketball team, 67-52, on Thursday night in Colonial Athletic Association action at Towson Center. Mason fell to 3-22 and 1-13 in CAA play, while the Tigers improved to 15-9 (7-7 CAA) in earning the season sweep.

Wilkins was joined in double figures by freshman Becky Cox, who chipped in 11 points, while two Tigers achieved the feat, led by 21 points from Shanae Baker-Brice. Sophomore Brittany Poindexter led Mason off the glass with nine rebounds.

Towson scored the game's opening baskets, but a three-point play from Poindexter cut the gap to 4-3. Less than a minute later, Wilkins' jumper in the paint at the 16:40 mark gave Mason its first lead of the day. Seven straight Tiger points, though, returned the advantage to the Tigers.

Over the course of the half, the Patriots whittled away at the deficit, ultimately tying the game at 14 with 5:35 to go in the half. Again, Towson found a response, using a 14-3 run to close out the half and take a 27-17 lead to the locker room.

The Tigers opened the second half with a 7-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead for the duration of the game, though a stretch of eight straight Wilkins points forced a Towson timeout with the score 46-34 and 8:55 showing on the clock. In the game, Mason out-shot the Tigers by a 36.4-to-35.3 margin but Towson held a 45-38 rebounding advantage.

Mason will be back in action on Sunday, opening a two-game homestand on WBCA PinkZone Day at Patriot Center with the 2 p.m. tilt against Old Dominion.
