George Mason forward Tiana Kallenberger had one of the best freshman seasons in school history and she was honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) this week as she was named the Virginia Rookie of the Year. She is the first Mason player to be named Virginia Rookie of the Year. James Madison's Corky Julian earned her second-straight Player of the Year award while Virginia Tech's Kelly Cagle was named Coach of the Year.
Kallenberger finished the season with nine goals and eight assists, both second-most on the team, as were her 26 points. She had one of the 10 best seasons in school history in terms of freshmen goals and points and her five game-winning goals are the second-most in a single-season by a Mason freshman.
Midfielder Omolyn Davis, who was named first-team All-CAA and first-team NSCAA All-Region was also named first-team All-Virginia. Davis, a redshirt junior in her first season with the Patriots, led the team with 10 goals and eight assists, finishing with 28 points.
The Patriots also placed goalie Katie Frey on the All-Virginia second team. She posted a 12-4-2 record with eight shuouts. She had a 0.71 goals-against average and an .849 save percentage. She allowed 13 goals on the season, the second-fewest in school history (min. 1500 minutes).
The trio are the first All-Virginia selections for the Patriots since 2006 when Laura Salichs was named to the first team and Rachel Wiggins was selected to the second team. The last time Mason had as many as three players selected All-Virginia was 2002 when Jess Delucchi, Naomi Hines and Katy Robertson were selected to the squad.
