George Mason midfielder Omolyn Davis led the Patriots with 10 goals, eight assists and 28 points in 2009 and on Thursday, she was named to the All-CAA first team after her inaugural campaign. The redshirt junior played in all but one match for Mason as the Patriots went 14-4-2 on the year. Mason led the nation in win improvement from 2008 to 2009 as Mason picked up nine more wins in 2009 than the previous season.
Davis was not the only Mason player honored as freshman Tiana Kallenberger picked up a pair of trophies. The forward was named to the All-CAA third team while also being selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Her teammate, goalie Katie Frey, was also named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Kallenberger was second on the team with nine goals and 26 points and she tied Davis for the team lead with eight assists.
Frey posted a 12-4-2 record on the season with eight shutouts. She also helped combine on two other shutouts as Mason allowed just 14 goals on the year, the second-fewest in team history. Frey allowed 13 goals, also the second-fewest in school history by a single goal keeper (minimum 1500 miutes). She posted a 0.71 goals-against average and an .849 save percentage.
Devin Petta of Northeastern was named the CAA Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, the first women's soccer player to ever earn the honor. She leads the CAA with 35 points and is tied for the conference lead with 14 goals and seven game-winning goals. Diana Weigel of William & Mary was selected CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Ed Matz of Northeastern was named CAA Coach of the Year.
The CAA Tournament begins on Friday with host school Northeastern taking on fourth-seeded James Madison while second-seeded Hofstra plays third-seeded UNC Wilmington. Mason finished the regular season tied with JMU for the fourth seed but the Dukes earned the spot in the CAA Tournament due to the tiebreaker, a head-to-head victory in the late September meeting.
