George Mason freshman Luke Hancock had an immediate impact in Mason's two home wins this past weekend and his efforts were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday when he was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Hancock came off the bench in both contests. Against Liberty, he scored 11 points with four rebounds, two assists a steal and a block in 23 minutes. He was 5 of 8 from the field and two of his boards came on the offensive glass. He had a critical basket as the shot clock expired in the final minute to give Mason the cushion it needed to put away Liberty.
On Sunday against Dartmouth, he scored 12 points with four rebounds an assist and two steals in 27 minutes. He was 5 of 9 from the field and his three reverse layups in the second half were key in a big run that gave Mason its 18th-straight home win. On the year he's averaging 11.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 58.8 percent from the field and a perfect 2 of 2 from 3-point range.
Mason will return to the court on Thursday when the Patriots take on fifth-ranked Villanova in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
